Our 18th century Watermill estate set in the 'green heart' of Portugal within the beautiful Estrela and Açor mountain range.

This beautiful holiday retreat consists of an old Olive Mill dating from 1770, a Watermill and a Distillery which has been beautifully restored into the English owners family home and 5 self-catering apartments. We invite you to spend your holidays at Quinta da Moenda, near to the village of Alvoco das Varzeas, in a region where mass tourism is an unfamiliar word. The mill estate lies between the lofty Estrela and Acor mountains beside the Alvoco river. The river Alvoco rises almost 2000 metres up in the Estrela range and its crystal clear waters cascade and flow down to the village of Alvoco das Varzeas, 300 metres above sea level.

We are situated in a unique part of Portugal: the Beira-Alta, where nature still goes on its own way, where the air and the rivers are still clean and pure, where the friendly inhabitants still live following the old traditions and where you still meet shepherds with their sheep, donkeys pulling carts or women balancing the fruits of the fields or fire-wood on top of their heads.
